Matrixyl™ 3000 (Sederma)
Combines palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, two peptides from the matrikine family: short protein fragments that skin uses as signals to maintain its collagen matrix. Palmitoyl tripeptide-1 is described as a messenger for collagen renewal. In a placebo-controlled study with 23 women, a cream with Matrixyl™ 3000 applied to one half of the face, against a placebo cream on the other half, reduced wrinkle depth and volume and skin roughness (Sederma, 2021). That result belongs to the ingredient.

VitaSource™ (Provital)
A purified fraction of Scutellaria baicalensis root, standardized in baicalin. In the laboratory, its supplier observed that fibroblasts, the cells that make collagen, could divide more times before aging. On skin, 1.5% VitaSource™ applied to the forearm twice daily for 56 days increased firmness and elasticity compared with placebo (Provital). These results belong to the ingredient.

Humectants and hyaluronic acid
Glycerin, sodium PCA, sodium lactate and panthenol draw water into the skin's surface layer; PCA and lactate are also among the skin's natural moisturizing factors. Sodium hyaluronate and soluble collagen bind water at the surface. Well-hydrated skin looks smoother, and fine lines caused by dehydration show less.

How to use

Morning and evening, apply 2–3 drops to clean skin.
Smooth over the face and neck and massage gently until absorbed.
Follow with your moisturizer; in the evening, DEFEND Night Cream complements the serum.
In the morning, finish with sunscreen.
Contains vitamin A (retinyl palmitate). Consider your daily intake of vitamin A before use. If you also use stronger retinoids or exfoliating acids, alternate them with the serum on evenings when your skin feels sensitive. Avoid contact with the eyes.

General warnings: For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact, rinse thoroughly with water. Discontinue use if irritation or redness occurs. Keep out of reach of children.

Questions about the formula

How do I use it with DEFEND Night Cream?

In the evening, apply the serum first, then the cream. The serum delivers Matrixyl™ 3000, VitaSource™ and humectants in a fluid texture; the cream adds Matrixyl™ 3000 peptides in a rich base with shea butter and plant oils.

How is it different from REBORN Serum?

In its actives. DEFEND pairs Matrixyl™ 3000 peptides with VitaSource™ and focuses on hydration. REBORN combines SymLift®, a complex that forms a fine film on application, SYN-TC® peptides and coenzyme Q10.

Does it contain retinoids?

It contains retinyl palmitate, a vitamin A ester that is gentler than retinol and different from the HPR retinoid in the CORRECT range. Consider your daily intake of vitamin A before use.

Can I use it with vitamin C or retinoids?

Yes. In the morning it can follow a vitamin C serum; in the evening, if you use retinoids or exfoliating acids, alternate them with DEFEND on nights when your skin feels sensitive.
